Mining in Australia is big business and if you can get your foot in the door then you are likely to make a good wage. There is always a need for different mining job positions to be filled and if you have the experience, you are likely to be hired. There are some jobs that you can get in the Australian mining industry that do not require any experience at all. Read on to find out more about the different types of entry level and unskilled mining jobs, and what they entail.

Firstly, if you are unskilled or have no experience then you may be able to get a job as a laborer or a fire watcher. There is also the possibility of becoming a dump truck driver. A position as a dump truck driver does not require you to have any prior experience, a degree or be physically fit. Many women as well as men prefer this position in the mining industry for these reasons.

Another popular entry level job in the Australian mining industry is Administration. There are various opportunities to work behind the scenes in an Administration job whether you are skilled or unskilled. If you have worked in an administrative position in an office previously, can pass a medical and have a first-aid certificate then you will find it very easy to get this type of job.

All the hard workers in the mines need food and water and so there is always demand for catering staff in the industry. Chefs, kitchen assistants and counter hands are among the types of catering jobs that are available in the Australian mining industry. It is possible to go into this role at entry level and on a Fly in-Fly out (FIFO) basis. Learn more here

Trades assistant is another position that is easily accessible in the mining industry. This role has a wide remit, for example you could focus on plumbing, construction, electrics or heavy plant machinery. A trades assistant may be involved in the everyday tasks of running the mining operation as well as being able to learn new skills.

Above all, the position of All-rounder is a very lucrative and enjoyable role which is always available in the industry. An All-rounder position usually requires people who have some construction background and who can operate heavy plant machinery or mobile equipment. If you have the necessary skills, an All-rounder can earn as much as $100,000 per year.

As you can see there are quite a number of entry level and unskilled positions available when it comes to working in the Australian mining industry. There are always jobs available in this busy industry and there are lots of places that support people who are trying to carve out a career in this field.
All the Australian opal fields are situated in arid inland areas with little relief; and the opal is found at shallow depths, usually less than 30m, in deeply weathered rock in which there has been considerable silica movement.

Noodling for Opals:

Many locals search through heaps of discarded mullock for pieces of precious opal. An abandoned open-cut mine is another good place for a noodler, using a rake and sieve for tools. Some have taken to large scale machine noodling by allowing large amounts of opal dirt travel on a conveyer belt under ultra-violet light, which detects the precious opal

Open Cut Opal Mining:

Open cut method is done by the use of heavy machinery to remove large amounts of opal dirt from closer to the surface for inspection. This method is more expensive and is mostly used to search for boulder opal in Central Queensland.

Puddling and Rumbling:

A Puddler is a large mesh-lined drum attached to a motor. This device rotates and turns the clay into sludge as water is pumped into the drum. The sludge escapes through the mesh. A related technique is dry rumbling

Sink a Large Shaft:

The simplest form of opal mining is by shaft sinking with a pick and shovel. A shaft is sunk straight down until some promising “opal dirt” is discovered. Length of the shaft could be as short as three metres or as long as 20 metres. A handpick or screwdriver is used to extract any opal found, due to the frailty of the stone.

Many mining companies in Australia tend to follow the following steps to extract gold from the earth surface. As technology and processes improves more and more mining techniques are being discovered to make the work simple.

Geological Mapping Areas for Gold:

This mapping is done by using the photographs of the geographical area where gold is presented.

Identification of Gold Bearing Zones:

This step is carried out by collecting the sample stones from the favorable places and it will be sent for gold mineralization. If the rocks are uncovered then some geochemical methods like stream sediment and soil sampling will be used to find the gold anomalous areas. Based upon the results of the sampling the target areas will be fixed for the further process.

Pre-feasibility exploration:

Based upon the result of global resource estimation, further process will be taken place by using “Close Spaced Diamond Core Drilling” along with the dip and sampling of ore body to improve the reliability. This also helps to predict whether the deposit is mineral or not.

Feasibility Exploration:

This involves additional extensive sampling on the earth surface and underground by using closed space drilling, bench cutting and bench sampling etc. to extract gold. And the “Sluice Box” will be used to filter the extract gold from placer deposits. Then the filtered particles will be sent for further process.

Three Dimension Sampling:

This sampling method is carried out by using two types of drilling. They are Reverse Circulation (RC) and Diamond Core Drilling. The RC drill is easily movable and the sample rock is obtained in the form of chips but in the diamond core drilling the sample is obtained in the form of solid core.

Estimation of Global Resource:

Based upon the previous step result (i.e.) length, width, depth, etc. a global resource of the gold deposit is estimated.

No matter what line of employment you are looking to enter nowadays, most employers are looking for those who have some experience. This leaves us in a quandary- how do we get experience if we cannot get a job? Well, there are ways and means of getting into your chosen career if you know how.

For example, you may be interested in working in the mines in Australia. Perhaps you have just moved there and are keen to get started in a job. Mining in Australia is particularly attractive career as it is very well paid and there are plenty of mining companies to choose from. So how do you go about getting into the mines if you have no experience?

It is true to say that most mining companies in Australia are looking for skilled workers who have experience. But there are opportunities to get your foot in the door with jobs in the mines that do not require you to have the relevant qualifications or experience.

One of ways to get work in the mines is to approach one of the many agencies. There are agencies who will take on casual labourers for work in the mines. They may also be willing to take you on in a position on a trial basis. If you can prove that you have the ability then you may be able to work your way up the ladder and open up new opportunities in the mining world.

It is also worth hunting out the mining jobs that do not require you to have any previous experience. This can be jobs such as a fire watcher or a trades assistant. Mines often have to shut down for a short period of time and people with no experience are often employed as confined space watchers during this time. Learn more about becoming a fire watcher click here

These three types of job are the easiest to get when wanting to progress to working in the mines in Australia. They are very easy jobs (most of the time) but they are still well paid. You will also benefit as you now have your foot in the door and can concentrate on working your way up to the mine job that you really want.

The easiest way to find mining jobs in Australia that require no experience is to do an online search. This way you will find the numerous agencies that are recruiting and find the ones that are willing to give those with no prior experience the opportunity to prove their worth. A goo place to start is here

Mining the shiny stuff involves a lengthy process of separating the shiny stuff in the ground from the other pieces of rock, soil, and natural debris surrounding it. Beginners to gold mining can complete the process with a few different methods; panning, sluicing, or using a metal detector.

Many people talk about panning for the jackpot, which involves sorting this item from other land elements via a shallow pan. This pan is filled with a pile of dirt, sand, and shiny bits. As the pan is submerged in a shallow container of water and gently shaken, much of the lighter debris is removed. The heavier pieces settle on the bottom of the pan, making them easier to find.

Having access to large volumes of water makes sluicing possible and highly effective. A sluice box is used in this technique. The box is long and more trough-shaped, with what are known as ‘riffles’ placed at the end of the trough. Soil and rock are shoveled into the sluice box and water is run over them. The dirt and small rocks are carried away by the rushing water, while heavier pieces of gold sink between the riffles.

With Australia being a large producer of this item, there is plenty of opportunity for a beginning miner to try his luck at looking for the shiny stuff. Individual tours can also be signed up for, which is very helpful to someone learning to find and mine for the shiny stuff.

There is generally some basic training included with more in-depth trips, such as map reading skills, how to use a metal detector, learning how to prospect this item, and then how to successfully pan for the shiny stuff detected. Each state within Australia has its own set of laws regarding searching for and obtaining this item.

Some states require a license to be purchased in order to mine the shiny stuff, while other states don’t. The license is worth it, because of the adventures this activity will bring.

However, even in parts of Australia where licenses aren’t required, there are still certain rules that need to be followed. The most common rules include; using only hand tools, a specific amount of material can be searched through each day, and asking for the landowner’s permission when needed.

A few of the older mining establishments have facilities in place for people to try their hand at mining gold, in case they don’t have all the proper equipment already. Fossicking for the shiny stuff in public areas has turned into a recreation activity for many people. These beginning miners can obtain a list of areas open to the public where prospecting for this item can take place and will be panning for gold in no time at all.

Coal burning powers homes and businesses all over the world. In Australia, most of the country’s electricity comes from domestically produced coal being burned in plants. But the substance is also responsible for a large amount of Australia’s greenhouse gases, and has come under fire as environmentally unfriendly, a message that is gaining support in recent years.

Two separate types of the substance are mined and burned for power. They are both found in Australia, and differ mostly in quality. The higher-quality form is referred to as black, and is burned all over the country and exported to other parts of the world. The brown version is lower-quality, and mostly exported or burned in Victoria, which has specialized power plants designed to use the lower-quality substance.

Because a large portion of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions (around 40%) come from the burning of coal, there are many people who believe that it should be phased out of use. Other people believe the answer lies in more advanced technology that might lead to so-called ‘clean coal.’ However, this is not a reality for the moment, and some people do not believe it will be soon enough, or ever.

Australia is heavily reliant on coal. Around 85% of the country’s electricity is produced by burning the substance, and the country also ranks fourth on the list of worldwide largest producers. Australia’s 409 Mt a year is only around half of the production of the US in a year, and 1/6 of China’s production, but it is still significant and economically important.

Surface mining makes up a bit less than half of the mines in the world, but is the method of choice in 80% of Australian mines. This method of mining uses explosives to dig pits, craters, and crevasses into the earth, which are then cleared of coal. It is a higher-yield alternative to the underground method, which is slightly more common worldwide.

In the past, working in a mine was a very dangerous job. It still is, in less developed countries. However, the risks have been greatly reduced in developed countries, though it is still more hazardous than many other jobs. Buildups of toxic gases released by digging, and black lung, caused by breathing dust, are both possibilities that miners might encounter.

The use of complicated machinery and sophisticated detection equipment is standard in mines these days. The operators of these machines are usually holders of four-year or more advanced degrees, and the majority of miners in Australia are now educated in the field. Unlike older generations of miners, today’s miners are no longer unskilled laborers. They are now more likely to be engineers, geologists, and other professionals.

Coal is essential to the Australian lifestyle for the moment, as it provides the majority of electricity in the country. However, it is responsible for the production of greenhouse gases, and has been challenged by many people who believe that a change needs to be made. Miners responsible for extracting the substance are now usually highly trained professionals, and operate sophisticated machinery that helps them figure out how to best perform the job.

Mining is one of the biggest and most important industries in Queensland. Its economic contribution to the state is significant in terms of taxes paid, infrastructure development and jobs. Mining jobs Queensland have attracted many workers to date and continue to have a good outlook. World demand for coal, bauxite and other minerals and resources is currently high and expected to sustain for the longer term.

The mining industry works in close partnership with the state government. The administering state agency is the Department of Local Government, Planning, Sport & Recreation. In February 2007, the department produced a report titled A Sustainable Futures Framework for Queensland Mining Towns. The report identifies several unique challenges confronted by mining towns mainly as a result of the highly cyclical nature of the industry. The report discusses various policy options the government has available for assisting mining communities to best manage those challenges. Individuals contemplating joining the mining industry will find much useful information in the report. The report focuses on coal mining in the Bowen plus Surat Basins. These reserves are located in the southeast quadrant of Queensland. The chief mineral resource in these regions is thermal coal.

The main port towns with facilities to load coal on ships for export are Abbot Point (north of Bowen), Mackay (Dalrymple Bay and Hay Point coal terminals), Gladstone (RG Tanna, North Galdstone and Barney Point, South Gladstone coal terminals) and Brisbane (Fisherman Island coal terminal). Hay Point Coal Terminal. Is one of the most important coal loading facilities. It is owned and operated by BHP Billiton. A A$230 million Phase 2 expansion of the facility was completed in 2007 to lift capacity by ten percent to 44 million metric tons per annum. Further expansions through Phases 3 and 4 are planned to ultimately increase loading capacity to as much as 57 million metric tons per annum.
Main coal mining towns in Bowen Basin include Baralaba, Blackwater, Biloela, Bowen, Capella, Clermont, Collinsville, Coppabella, Dysart, Emerald, Glenden, Moranbah, , Moura, Nebo, Tieri, Middlemount, Rolleston, , Springsure and Theodore. Key towns in Surat Basin are Chinchilla, Dalby, Miles, Taroom and Wandoan. In Mulgildie Basin, the main mining town is Monto. Most of these towns are small with populations of only a few thousand people or less.
Many of the mining workers in these town are regularly transported to and from the towns by their companies on a fly-in-fly-out or drive-in-drive-out basis to complete extended work-leisure rotations that extend over several weeks.
Weipa is another important mining town. It is located in the far north of the state facing the Gulf of Carpentaria on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula. The area has easily accessible and massive bauxite reserves and the town is a large producer and exporter of the resource. The mineral was discovered in 1955 and mining started soon after in 1962. The town has a population of about 3,000 people.
Given the large volume of coal, bauxite, natural gas and other mineral reserves in the state plus the high level of international demand for these resources into the future, mining jobs Queensland will likely continue to provide significant economic opportunities for workers for many years to come.

For many people, Australia is the land of opportunity. And for opportunities in mining, many find themselves making the trip to the twin cities of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia. Although they are two towns, the area is usually referred to as simply Kalgoorlie, the centre of mining in WA.

Mining in Kalgoorlie is not a recent phenomenon: there has been gold mining in the area since 1893 when three Irish gold prospectors discovered gold deposits near Mount Charlotte. Paddy Hannan, Dan Shea and Tom Flannagan set off a gold rush of major proportions. Within days of their discovery of eight ounces of gold nuggets over seven hundred prospectors were staking claims. The gold rush that followed in the later 1890s swelled the population of the town to 20,000.

But that is all in the past, as the Kalgoorlie mines have moved with the times and now employ modern methods of mining, including taking responsibility for the environmental impact and the health and safety of their workers. Mining can be a dangerous pastime, but with health and safety guidelines and job training, workers can be more assured of their security on the job.

Home of the Super Pit, the largest open cut gold mine in the world, Kalgoorlie is a bustling town with over twenty-eight thousand people, a fourth of which actually are employed to work in the Super Pit. There is plenty of work going: the mine operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, with mine blasts at 1pm every day.

Unlike many mines, the Super Pit operates on a residential, rather than a fly-in fly-out basis. This means that the workers and their families can invest in the life of the community, taking part in the various leisure activities and clubs that exist in the area.

The Superpit is only one of the many mining operations in Kalgoorlie that needs skilled and unskilled workers. The industry has a constant need for skilled professionals with technical skills like electricians, pipe fitters, engineers, and mechanics.

There is always a need for new workers. Because the pay is good many young people come to work in the mines for a short time and leave when they have saved up some money. Although traditionally a male dominated industry, women too are finding opportunities to earn good money in the mining industry.

The best way to look for work in the mining industry is to go where the jobs are. Kalgoorlie is considered to be in the Outback and is somewhat isolated. However, unlike many mining towns, Kalgoorlie has been intentionally developed as a place where miners and their families can live full time.

A visit to Kalgoorlie will be a pleasant experience. It’s an attractive city with well maintained historic architecture, parks, culture and entertainment. Hostels provide inexpensive, comfortable accommodations for the visitor on a budget, and can be a good base for anyone searching for a job in the area.

Jobs in the mining industry are advertised on a weekly basis. There are also several mining related employment agencies operating in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Some of these agencies also provide training courses for people seeking employment in the industry. It’s such a fast moving industry, so if you are actually in the town where the jobs are you have a much higher chance of getting hired.

Many companies will hire unskilled workers simply because they need workers and you happen to be there and ready to start work with in 24 hours.

Getting a mining job with no experience can be hard, but if you are able to find one you will probably realize the pay is going to be good. However, there are many occupational hazards.

Since the job field is not as large as it once was you will want to try to get a leg up on any competition that you could end up facing. Here are some great bits of information that can help you figure out how to get that advantage.

The first thing that you can do is go down the local pubs where the mine workers drink and talk to people, even the supervisors. By talking to them you will gain some valuable knowledge, but you will also be gaining friendships and when you apply you might be able to use that friendship as a reference.

The second thing that you will want to do is consider if you have any friends that work in the company. If you find out that some do, you might want to think about finding out how well they are seen in the company. If you are able to find that out and if they are in a decent standing you might be able to utilize that friendship to ensure that they can give you a good referral.

The third thing will be heading back to the books. If you are able to find a local training centre you might be able to take some courses that would provide you with relevant training. This training then could lead to you being able to have a edge on the other applicants.

A job in this field can be very rewarding. However, you will want to ensure that you can do this career for a long period of time even to the point of retirement. The hazards that are found in this field though will be minimal compared to the rewards that you will see.

Finding a job in this field doesn’t have to be that hard. You will just want to make sure that it is the field that you want to work in.

Locating a mining job with no experience isn’t as hard as it seems. Following the tips above will allow you to get a leg up on people. You will also be able to hopefully use these tips to obtain the employment that you are looking for.
